Hello
I'll try to show up here from time to time, as the website already takes a lot of my spare time.
This spring I even have quit my job as administrator on the Dutch version of your forum "Palmvrienden".
You can still spot me there, but as a simple user. I'm also active on the French forum "Fous de palmiers".
I started with exotics many years ago but started in my actual garden only end 2009.
My interesses goes to palm trees, especially the hardy ones and my personal collection counts up to a 40 different species I think. Most small as I like the grow them from seed. I also have Musa's and bamboo; beside a Vivax 12 Fargesias in plain ground.
Enough talk for now. I'll let the pictures and video speak for themselves.

Thanks to you.
Even if the temperatures here should be a little bit milder than yours, it still can get as low as -19°C.
Hope to inspire on possibilities other than the classic Trachycarpus and to learn from your hardiness experiences as well.
Did one of you already tried a Cycas in plain ground?
It should be doable!
Here it works lovely! Easer than a palm.

Small update with fresh pictures
The Trachy on the right hand side was planted small but begins to overtake his bigger 'neighbour'
Hybride seeds; Trachycarpus fortunei x wagnerianus
Cyathea brownii first year in plain ground. Seems to hold on for now. We have had down to untill now -5,6°C.
Quite rare, this Chusquea culeou really did well last year!
Happy holiday's!

It's amazing what you managed to build during seven years!
Kinda funny comparing the Garden-Houses of 2009 and 2016. Did you wash it in hot hot water or why did it get so small?
Very beautiful garden! Well done mate!

Thank you very much.
About the sheds
On the first picture taken in 2009 you can see the wooden shed of our neighbors but on the 2nd picture taken in 2016, it isn't visible anymore thanks to my Albizia which has become huge over the years! You can see however the small childrens playhouse which was removed (at least ) last summer. You can also see that on the right upper side, I've place my own shed.

Yesterday I harvested my hybrid Trachycarpus fortunei x wagnerianus seeds. There is A LOT of them...
The male is the one with the shells on the trunk. It isn't a wagnerianus "pur sang" but already a magnificent hybride for itself.
I crossed him with the female also posted here.
No I have a lot of work with picking, counting and preparing for sale
I already have 800 in bags. I think a 2000/3000 in a pot and still this is half of all.
Other plans for the garden I'll post later on!

Hi everybody
Last week a completed some new projects in the garden.
I build a small stone wall with integrated ground spot for more brightness when walking across the garden.
I also created a whole new border with Dicksonia's and an other one with big stones and Hosta's.

Hi everyone
Already 6 months have past since my last update. It has been a busy season. I'm even a bit surprised to rediscover the pictures of my garden which seems so empty in spring
To give a much better idea of things I suggest to watch my yearly video:
The raison why I haven't been much online / posting is because I used all my spare time to translate my entire website (over 90 articles!) in English as well. Hope you enjoy and feel free to comment.

Thank you very much.
The video was shot in begin august but indeed, the grass did suffer from the extreme dryness of this season and so that most of the garden!
A see a lot of delay in growth especially on Canna's. My Canna Stuttgart hardly showed up and only measures à small 15cm now where it should be man high. Seem thing for the musafolia's.
This weekend I brought most of the container plants back inside. The typical moment of the year that you realize that the collection is way to big. I'm glad I did so because this morning temp was 4,5°C only!

Hier hat es auch kräftig geschneit. Mutig, dass die Washingtonia noch nicht eingepackt ist!

It will do. Last year it had to cope with -6,8°C for one night without any protection due to my absence (went off skiing).
This was only light snow and the leaves were already clean within the day. The temps hold on to -0,7 for a day but nothing the fear.
Even my Cyathea brownii stayed unprotected and with the temperatures begin positive again, I felt the trunk and it was still solid.

Quickly mounted my first (and highest - 2m50) winterprotection over the Jubaea.
Only needs a shrinkfoil around it with openings on the bottom and top for ventilation. That will do for now.
Soon I will mount the others over the Chamaerops humilis 'Cerifera', Butia odorata and Cyathea brownii as well.
The Washingtonia's will be protected ad hoc.

Next day I decided to build the other protections as well; Chamaerops h. Cerifera, Cyathea brownii, Butia, Trithrinax, Brahea,...
I didn't had much choise concerning the announced snowfall later that week. As a result I had to build all of those in heavy winds and rainfall.
Yesterday the were also put to the test with heavy wind! We had up to 8 Bft !
Here some other pix from yesterday. All melted away the same day. Today we have had 5-10cm fresh snowfall.

Almost 9 months later I'm back with an update after a very very dry summer. Hope you will enjoy.

Than you guys!
Even if I had some setbacks as well.
The extreme drought (in Germany as well I supose?) made lots of ferns dry back much earlier.
Only few species seem to cope. I also had to cut down all of my Fargesia murieliae x nitida ‘Viking’ only days ago due to bamboo mites. It will have to start all over again...
Lots of retardation is due to the fact that the garden wasn’t watered properly during my long absence (summer holiday) but all together I must not complaint.
Tjuss and I will visit your garden topics asap as well. Just very busy...

Did some new upgrades in the garden; changed the roofing of my pergola, placed gravel in the Zen-corner and some other new stuff. Enjoy.
